As England's second-biggest city, Birmingham has more than its fair share of accommodation to choose from, with a good selection of hotels being conveniently close to Birmingham International Airport (BHX).
There are also a number of hotels located near to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), which stands part-way between the city and Coventry, and just 2 km / 1 mile from the actual airport itself.
There are no youth hostels to be found within Birmingham and very few centrally located B&Bs, although many very affordable brand-name hotels and smaller guest houses stand within a 5-km / 3-mile radius of the city centre itself. Some of the most appealing accommodation awaits in the area known as Acocks Green, and also between Selly Oak and Edgbaston.

Birmingham: City Hotels and Accommodation
Those wishing to stay in the city centre will find a selection of centrally located accommodation, around 11 km / 7 miles to the west of Birmingham International Airport (BHX). Here you will find a mixture of chain hotels and smaller, family run guest houses. Many large hotels in this area are situated close to the Birmingham International Convention Centre (BICC), which is known for its seasonal fashion shows and other enormous gatherings.
Although the city of Birmingham does not contain any hostels as such, there is plenty of reasonably priced accommodation throughout the heart of the city. Known for its inexpensive rooms, the Ashdale House Hotel can be found along Broad Road and is a charming, Victorian building with views of the nearby park. Also offering cheap accommodation in central Birmingham, the Ibis Hotel can be found along Ladywell Walk, next to the lively Chinatown district.
Those looking to stay near to the University of Birmingham should consider the Awentsbury Hotel along Serpentine Road. For luxury accommodation close to the centre, Jurys Inn on Broad Street has gained a strong reputation and is situated near to Brindley Place. Whilst bed and breakfasts are not commonplace in the city centre, a reasonable selection can be found just 5 km / 3 miles away, between the Selly Oak and Edgbaston neighbourhoods.
